Deputy Governor of Ondo state barred from leaving the state house by police commissioner over suspected plan of defection from APC to PDP (video)
A mild drama was reported at the Ondo State Government House in Akure, as the state's Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi was allegedly stopped by State Police Commissioner Salami Amidu Bolaji from leaving the premises.
Police commissioner 's actions which were spotted having an argument with Ajayi at the gate of the government house were related to the alleged defection plot of the deputy governor which he (police commissioner) repeatedly stated in a viral video.
Sahara Reporters alleged that Ajayi had decided to join the PDP in the state governorship election scheduled for 10 October 2020 to contest Governor Akeredolu. It has been reported that the defection plan of the deputy governor has created disaffection among top APC members and Akeredolu loyalists, who have pleaded with Ajayi not to leave the party.
Insiders said the decision of the Deputy Governor to contest the governorship election was the result of a cold war between him and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, which became apparent shortly after the general elections in 2019.
