A Traffic officer shot over towing wreckage of UPDF vehicle involved in accident

Robert Mukebezi, a police constable, was shot and injured while attempting to tow a UPDF vehicle involved in an accident on Kira Road.

The soldiers allegedly dragged the bleeding officer out of the vehicle and dumped him on the ground before ordering the wreckage to be driven to Mbuya by the driver of the breakdown.




On Sunday morning, a traffic officer was shot by suspected Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers who attempted to prevent police from towing a military vehicle involved in an accident on Kira road in Kampala.


A source told Monitor that the traffic officer, Police Constable Robert Mukebezi, was seated on the passenger side of a breakdown truck that was towing a military Toyota Prado TX that had knocked a signpost of Kobil fuel station when they were intercepted by soldiers in a double cabin vehicle with military license plates at Ntinda traffic lights at around 6am.





 He told police that the soldiers emerged from a double cabin and first shot in the air.


The soldiers then asked them where they were towing the military vehicle to, and they responded "to the police."


One of the soldiers then discharged several bullets on the passenger side of the breakdown injuring Constable Mukebezi in the leg, sources told this publication.


The soldiers allegedly dragged the bleeding officer out of the vehicle and dumped him on the ground before ordering the driver of the breakdown to drive the wreckage to Mbuya.


PC Mukebezi was later picked by the police and taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital Mulago in Kampala City where he is said to be in critical condition after losing a lot of blood.




 Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the shooting of their officer by "unidentified persons dressed in military fatigue" who alighted from a military vehicle.


"The investigations are ongoing to establish the shooter," Assistant Superintendent of Police Owoyesigyire said.


Eyewitnesses who spoke to this reporter say the accident happened at around 5am when the driver of the military vehicle lost control and knocked the signpost of Kobil.


The occupants, who according to eyewitnesses were drunk, abandoned the vehicle at the scene.


Responders notified the police, who dispatched PC Mukebezi to the scene and towed the vehicle to the police station.


According to a source, PC Mukebezi hired a breakdown vehicle to tow the wreckage, but when they arrived at the Ntinda traffic lights, they were met by a soldier driving a double cabin with military license plates.


According to the source, they were shot at before they could explain where they were towing the vehicle, injuring a police officer.

Nigeria’s manufacturers hold N420b of unsold products

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has expressed concerns over its overall inventory of unsold products worth N420 billion for the first quarter of 2020. Its acting Director-General, Mr Ambrose Oruche, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos. Man electrocuted while working on an electrical box

   Wednesday afternoon, a man was electrocuted while working on an electrical box in Ikageng, Potchefstroom, in the North West. According to ER24's Russel Meiring, the provincial fire department arrived at 1.25 p.m. to find an electrical box on a pole on fire. On the dirt road beneath it, a man lay motionless. "Before paramedics could assess the patient, the provincial fire services had to extinguish the fire." Upon closer inspection, medics discovered that the man had already died as a result of his numerous injuries. There was nothing that could be done for him, and he was declared dead. "It's believed the man was working on the electrical box when he was electrocuted," he said. Authorities are looking into it.
