COVID-19: Labs now 29 as NCDC activates one more

 The total number of laboratories with COVID-19 testing capacity in Nigeria is now 29 across the country.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control disclosed this in a message it posted on its Twitter handle, @NCDCgov, on Saturday.

It said the number rose to 29 with the activation of a laboratory in Bauchi state.

The message read, “We are pleased to announce the inclusion of an additional lab to the NCDC Molecular Laboratory Network: Bauchi State Reference Molecular Laboratory


“This brings the total number of labs with the capacity to test for COVID-19 in Nigeria to 29.”

The centre said work was in progress on two other laboratories in Kwara and Gombe States.

The NCDC had last week announced the activation of two laboratories in Ogun and Katsina States.

They are Afriglobal Medicare Lab, Ogun, and Sahel Centre for Molecular Diagnostics and Research, Katsina.

Adamawa : gunmen assassinate a local chief and a 16-year-old child.

  A village chief and a 16-year-old boy were killed in a recent wave of abductions in the state's Madagali Local Government Area, according to the Adamawa State Police Command. The teenager, known as Ijarshu Markus, was abducted along with his mother and brother from their home in Maiwandu village last week, according to reports. The mother and the other boy were rescued by local vigilantes, but Markus was taken by the shooters. The teen's body was discovered three days later in the bush, with two stab wounds to his chest and heart. In the aftermath of the Bali bombings in 2002, an Indonesian terrorist was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

   Wednesday, an Indonesian court sentenced an Al-Qaeda-linked Islamist fighter to 15 years in prison for his role in the 2002 Bali bombings, which killed more than 200 people. The blasts, which came just over a year after the 9/11 attacks on the United States, ripped through two bars packed with foreign tourists, and remain the deadliest militant assault in Indonesia's history. Zulkarnaen, a high-ranking member of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) militant group, was arrested in December 2020 after spending nearly 18 years at large. He was on trial for the Bali bombings, as well as several other attacks carried out by the special unit under his command. He "is guilty of committing terrorism and is sentenced to 15 years behind bars", said the presiding judge at East Jakarta District Court.
