Aerospace giant, Airbus to cut 1,700 jobs on UK locations

As a result of the coronavirus crisis, Aerospace giant Airbus aims to slash 1,700 jobs in the UK, the company has reported.

The news is a major blow to its Broughton facility, where wings are made, and to its other Filton factory in Bristol.

The organization is cutting 15,000 workers from their global operations.

A company release said: "Airbus has disclosed plans to adapt its global workforce and resize its commercial aircraft activity in response to the Covid-19 crisis.

"This adaptation is expected to result in a reduction of around 15,000 positions no later than summer 2021.

"The information and consultation process with social partners has begun with a view to reaching agreements for implementation starting in autumn 2020."

It is yet to be announced where these reductions are likely to me made.

It comes as the boss of Airbus reportedly told staff the firm is “bleeding cash” due to the fall in demand for air travel caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
