Did you know that since August 27, 1991, Delta State has had 10 separate chief executives?

Since August 27, 1991, the Delta State Government has had 10 different Chief Executives? That includes Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, current elected Governor.

Out of the 10 leaders who have been at the helm of Delta State’s affairs since its creation in 1991, only 4 were democratically elected—the incumbent Governor being the fourth.

The first democratically elected leader of Delta State, Olorogun Felix Ibru, was forced to leave office after only 22 months — following the Abacha coup that led to the dismantling of all democratic institutions in Nigeria.

Other elected Governors are Chief James Onanefe Ibori (May 1999 – May 2007), and Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan (May 2007 – May 2015) — both of whom served two consecutive terms.
