Nike delivers a statement as the rape investigation into Mason Greenwood gets underway.

"We are profoundly concerned by the unsettling claims [against Mason Greenwood] and will continue to closely watch the situation," Nike said in a statement, according to The Athletic.

The Nike-sponsored 20-year-old is being investigated by police for allegedly hitting and rapping his girlfriend Harriet Robson.

Harriet, who had published incriminating information on Instagram, has suddenly deleted everything once the police took over the case.

Manchester United has also released a statement, but the situation does not appear to be improving, as several players have unfollowed Greenwood on social media.

Nike may sever ties with Mason as a result of his acts, for which he must be held accountable.
